What 925 actually means.

Pure silver is too soft to wear. Sterling silver is 925 parts silver to 75 parts copper, which makes it strong enough for earrings you will wear every day. Every Silver Lane piece is tested and stamped at a BIS hallmarking centre, and its 6-digit HUID lets you check it on the BIS CARE app.

Metal care.

Silver tarnishes when it meets air, sweat and perfume. It is not damage, just a thin dark film, and it comes off. Drag the slider.

Six months in a drawerTen minutes with our cloth
  1. Last on, first off.Put silver on after perfume, lotion and hairspray; take it off before a bath or the gym.
  2. One piece, one pouch.Store each piece in its zip pouch with the anti-tarnish strip. Air is what darkens silver.
  3. Polish with the cloth, not paste.Rub gently along the piece. Toothpaste and baking soda scratch the surface.
  4. Leave oxidised pieces dark.Oxidised finishes are meant to be black in the recesses. Only wipe the raised parts.
  5. Free polishing for life.Bring it to the lane or post it to us. We polish, re-thread and return it in a week.

From Dariba Kalan.

Dariba Kalan, off Chandni Chowk, has sold silver since the Mughals. Silver Lane is a two-room workshop there: three silversmiths, one polishing wheel and a weighing scale that is older than all of us. We design in the front room and make everything in the back.
