The shop

Every piece is printed by hand, so no two repeats sit exactly alike. That is the point.

One block,
four hundred stamps.

  1. 01 · CarveA rosewood block is hand-carved for each colour of the print. One motif takes the carver two days.
  2. 02 · OutlineThe dark outline goes on first, block by block, lined up by eye along the cloth.
  3. 03 · FillA second block lays madder red inside every outline. Our printers call this “registration”.
  4. 04 · Sun & washThe cloth dries in the sun, then is washed so the dye settles. Only then is it cut.

The Sanganer studio.

Kurta Kraft started in 2017 at one printing table in Sanganer, a few lanes from the river where Jaipur’s printers have washed their cloth for three hundred years. We still print there. Our tailors are in Johari Bazaar, and every kurta is cut, stitched and pressed in Jaipur.
